Formals: A Better Approach
by Colleen Donovan
Imagine being in your wedding gown: your hair is perfect, your makeup is perfect, your flowers are fresh and pretty. You peek around the corner to see your future husband with his back towards you. Then when your photographer cues you, you step out and your groom turns around and smiles the biggest smile you've ever seen. There may even be a few tears.
It's been my experience that taking the formal pictures before the ceremony greatly reduces the anxiety and nervousness couples feel on their wedding day. This in turn allows them the freedom to enjoy the wedding ceremony and to really hear each other's vows. Your photographer can still capture the first moment you see one another and it is so much more private than when it happens during the ceremony. After a few special moments together you can move on to the family and group shots and not have to worry about them after the ceremony when everyone really just wants to get to the reception! Who doesn't want more time to celebrate?!
