What Can A Wedding Coordinator Do That I Can't?

by Lesley Watts

There are so many reasons for a couple to choose to plan their own wedding. She wants everything to be perfect, she feels she knows what she wants better than anyone, and/or she feels that she can do everything herself. What can a wedding coordinator do that she can't? And why should she pay someone to do it? The answer is this: A coordinator can make sure everything is perfect while the couple enjoys their moment in the spotlight.

A coordinator's job is to deliver exactly what the bride wants, even if it means scouring every resource they have to find it, and a good coordinator can find a way to exceed the bride's expectations while saving her money. If a coordinator is doing their job correctly, they will only do what their client wants them to do. That may mean designing everything from invitation to floral arrangements to favors. It also means finding out what colors, style, level of formality, linens centerpieces, etc. the couple wants. It never means what the coordinator wants. Let's not forget about the couple who only wants someone to keep them on budget and keep everything organized on the day of their event.

And finally, a bride really can't do everything herself. A wedding is a major event, and large or intimate, it is a major production. It is also quite possibly the most sentimental moment in the couple's life thus far. The bride is only human, and getting her hair done, while simultaneously inspecting the groomsmen's tuxedos for all pieces of the ensemble, while handing out the floral arrangements, while lighting all the candles, while checking to make sure that the tables at the reception are properly placed is simply impossible.

But with the help of a reputable coordinator, sitting back and getting her hair done and relaxing at the reception is possible. The coordinator and/or their assistant can make sure everyone and everything looks perfect all while seeing to it that every little detail is attended to. That's their job! It's what they specialize in. Ahhh, now doesn't that sound like a much better way to celebrate the most important day of your life?
