Hiring a Professional Wedding Photographer

by Carrie Zylka

Everyone knows that one of the main components of planning a successful wedding is finding the right photographer. When choosing a photographer to capture your timeless day, go with the best photographer you can afford. You are not only paying for the final product, you're also paying for the photographer's experience, ability, and professionalism. A great wedding photographer can take a lot of stress out of what can otherwise be a stressful day.

Remember you can't expect to get something for nothing. This is not to say that just because you pay a lot of money you will get great photographs. But if you hire your "uncle Joe" to take the pictures, then expect "uncle Joe" quality pictures. If you don't hire a seasoned professional, you will not have the peace of mind that hiring a professional wedding photographer provides.

It's always a good idea to meet face to face with your wedding photographer, if at all possible, prior to hiring him or her. If the photographer you'd like to book lives 50 miles away, at least insist on a phone interview.

While the photographer is looking for pleasant, cheerful, and organized clients, you should be looking for the same in a potential photographer. You should be able to hear the smile in the photographer's voice when you speak on the phone. If you meet in person, the photographer should be professionally dressed, have a portfolio for you to look through and genuinely seem excited about taking photographs of your wedding.

Your wedding day is supposed to go off without a hitch, make sure you get the right person to record it for you.
