Romantic Motifs for a Spring Wedding
by Ginger Hayes
One way to give your wedding personality is to choose a theme or motif. You can use your wedding theme to decorate the wedding chapel, choose favors for guests, adorn invitations and help you decide on your wedding color combinations. Here are a few themes to consider:
Songbirds. Songbirds steal nature's stage in spring and a songbird motif will certainly give your wedding a springtime ambiance. Choose the robin if you'd like your wedding colors to be shades of orange, or use a motif of a soft yellow and gray chickadee. The blue jay is a particularly colorful songbird with a flamboyant tail. Add a motif of your favorite songbird to your wedding invitations and incorporate the same motif into your wedding favors and decor.
Lily of the Valley. This delicate flower definitely evokes feelings of spring. The small, white, bell-shaped buds go well with any color combination. Have a sprig of lily of the valley drawn for your wedding stationery and have your bridesmaids hold simple bouquets featuring the flower. Reception table decor can be as simple as a small vase holding a half-dozen lily of the valley stems.
Bumblebees. What would spring be without bumblebees? For a spring bride who loves yellow, the bumblebee is a good choice for a wedding motif. Combine the bumblebee with flowers for a more colorful motif. Line the aisles of the chapel with watering cans painted with bumblebees and tied with yellow ribbon.
Flowerpots. The flowerpot motif offers brides a great way to save on wedding flowers. Instead of buying cut flowers and bouquets, decorate the wedding ceremony reception and the reception hall with flowerpots. You can give guests mini flowerpots as favors, and you can have your bridesmaids carry small baskets filled with living flowers in soil. After the wedding, all of your flowers can live on in your own garden or with wedding guests.
Castles. Castles are a good year-round wedding motif, but in the spring castles have a romantic aura about them. For a castle-themed wedding, choose scroll-style wedding invitations that roll out like a royal pronouncement. Decorate your guest place cards with photos of castles, and have each table represent a different real life castle. Give away candles with castles painted on them. For a dramatic spring wedding, ride in to the ceremony on a horse or host your wedding ceremony at a castle or mansion.
Choosing a wedding motif that fits your personality allows you to put your stamp on the wedding and makes the entire wedding experience more memorable for guests.
